Abstract

A pair of breeding Black-faced Cuckoo-shrikes Coracina novaehollandiae was observed raising two young from 20 days before fledging until they became independent. In a 91-day period, 29.7 hours were spent watching the nest and 66.5 hours watching and/or searching for family members after the young fledged. The breeding home range was 33 ha (core area 22 ha). One juvenile reached independence in 50-52 days after fledging, the other in 61-63 days. Information is presented on nest, nest site, voice, pair-bonding, brooding and feeding routine, care of the young, nestling and fledgling development, diet and pattern of diurnal activity.
