Abstract

Groups of Superb Fairy-wrens Malurus cyaneus were studied over two years in a mixed Leptospermum and grass habitat. Seasonal changes in group size and the vegetation composition of the home ranges were noted. Group size was largest in the breeding season. The data suggest that group size is related to the area of Leptospermum and short grass in the home range in the breeding and non-breeding seasons respectively.
