Abstract

Yellow White-eyes Zosterops luteus were found at 15 of 315 points surveyed for birds around Princess Charlotte Bay, north Queensland, in 1999. The presence of a substantial population of Yellow White-eyes around Princess Charlotte Bay is evidence that this environment is a small replica of that of the Gulf of Carpentaria across Cape York Peninsula to the west. Presence of the White-eyes in isolated mangrove and dune scrub patches may be possible only because of the relative aridity of this part of a coast otherwise occupied by Silvereyes Z. lateralis.
