Abstract
Roosting habits of the Red-whiskered Bulbul Pycnonotus jocosus were observed from 1982 and recorded in detail from 1993 to 1996. The communal roost was a patch of dense Lantana Lantana camara (c. 0.5 ha) in the centre of a public reserve. From 1993 to 1996, the number of roosting birds was highest in winter months (mean = 153, range 90-240, n = 6) and lowest in summer months (mean= 31, range 7-75, n = 4). Roosting behaviour is described.
