Foraging Association Between an Australasian Grebe and a Freshwater Turtle

Abstract

This note describes an observation of an Australasian Grebe Tachybaptus novaehollandiae foraging in association with a freshwater turtle. The Grebe repeatedly dived in response to an adjacent diving turtle, and exhibited behaviour consistent with encouraging the turtle into diving.
