Abstract

Food differences between sympatric Grey Goshawks Accipiter novaehollandiae and Brown Goshawks A. fasciatus were studied at Abergowrie, Queensland, during the non-breeding season. Grey Goshawks took more mammals than did Brown Goshawks, and females of both species captured larger prey than did the corresponding males. Diet overlap between the species was 56%, lower than that in the breeding season, and can be interpreted as an indication of fewer resources and greater competition in the non-breeding season.
