Abstract

The Red-cheeked Parrot is recorded by Rand and Gilliard (1967) as occurring in the Lesser Sundas, New Guinea and its satellite islands, and north Queensland. The Australian range is defined by J. M. Forshaw (1966) as from the Pascoe to the Claudie Rivers. Related species are found in New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. In New Guinea it is a lowland and foothill species, being replaced at the higher altitudes by the Lilac-collared Parrot, G. simplex.
