Abstract

This paper is a summary and discussion of approximately 150 separate reports on the biotic responses to the total eclipse which crossed southeast Australia 23 October 1976. In general the reports confirm previous accounts of solar eclipses. Organisms mostly responded as they would to true dusk and dawn; however there were many variations on the manner in which this occurred.
