Observations of Australian Bitterns Eating Small Mammals

Abstract
On two occasions (27 July and 3 August 2003) an Australasian Bittern Botaurus poiciloptilus was observed eating a small mammal, probably a House Mouse Mus domesticus, near Werribee, 35 km south-west of Melbourne, Victoria. These observations augment the little material published on foraging and diet of the species.
